Panchakarma
The various therapies of your Panchakarma cure form a precisely coordinated series of treatments, which mutually support each other in their effect. All treatments of an Ayurveda cure are given in silence. In our clinic, men are treated by men and women by women.
The Deep Purification
Panchakarma refers to the five (pancha) kinds of activities (karma)
Traditional ayurvedic panchakarma consists of:
Virechana – laxative measures
Basti – enemas
Nasya – nasal rinsing, detox for the head
Vaman – vomiting (rarely practised in Maharishi Ayurveda)
Raktamokshana – bloodletting (rarely practised in Maharishi Ayurveda)
Panchakarma consists of 3 stages
In consultation with the ayurvedic physician we design a specific panchakarma program. The panchakarma consists of 3 phases:
– Preparation period (can often be done at home) for several days. Often a special diet is recommended for the weeks running up to this.
– Treatment days at the health center.
– Rest period to allow digestion to regain strength (at home).
During the entire panchakarma there will be several consultations with the ayurveda physician.

Main Treatments at the Center
Oil Massage
Abhyanga is an oil massage that releases impurities from the cells. This also includes substances that are not soluble in water, such as some of the most harmful agricultural poisons. Spiced oil is used in the massages. The herbs are adapted to the client’s constitutional type. The doctor can also take into account any complaints.
There are various alternatives to abhyanga, such as udvartana and vishesh, that the doctor may advise based on your constitutional type and complaints. At the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center, abhyangas are always given as a ‘Four-hand massage’. This means that two masseurs simultaneously give exactly the same massage on both sides of the body. This is a very balanced experience for the client.
Steam Bath
The Svedana is a steam bath, enriched with Ayurvedic herbs. All the fine body channels open up, allowing the loosened waste products to be removed.
Colon cleansing, Enemas
A colon cleansing removes waste products from the body.
The matra basti is an enema with soothing spiced oil. This has a soothing and nourishing effect on the intestinal mucosa. This procedure not only has a cleansing effect, but also a nourishing effect on the intestinal mucosa.
The shodana basti contains a number of ingredients that have a gentle cleansing effect. A matra basti is always given after a shodana basti.
